Gaming is dying, and why that’s a good thing
Lately gaming has been going on a steep downhill trend for a few reasons. The PS5 has been out of stock everywhere for years, and remake after remake, port after port are all we get. Yes there have been some good games recently, such as Sonic Frontiers and (Somewhat old now) Smash ultimate, but its not the same as it once was.
Modern consoles are even outdated despite being new. There’s no new innovation nor do they even know how to make a console! The PS5 is so rare that most people haven't ever even seen one even though it came out 2 years ago. I’m lucky to have seen one in person, and even then it wasn’t in a store, one of my friends brought it into school to play a Naruto game (Forgot which one but it wasn’t that good) and the only reason why he even had one is because he’s a scalper who sells stuff like that to idiots who'll buy it at a higher price!
The Xbox isn’t much better but at least that’s buyable. The switch is 5 years old and still just barely considered next gen. It really shouldn’t since it had outdated specs even last generation, and every other company has a new console. The newest Pokémon game barely even runs on it, and it’s both not the switch's fault, and its fault entirely. It should have been made better, with more advanced parts similar to every other console, but Pokémon itself was made with such low quality it can't even run on its own console.
Pokémon, low quality? That sounds like something that wouldn’t even belong in the same sentence with each other, but it’s the unfortunate truth. The recent games have been terrible. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are ones that come to mind. It's not only the fault of the hardware it runs on, but also the development. It's obviously the developer's fault because much better looking games such as SMTV and Smash Ultimate run amazingly. The game is full of glitches. People looking like creepypastas, you can run up mountains if you walk backwards. You run twice as fast if you plug in 2 controllers at once, how do you even mess up that bad?
Nowadays games aren’t even finished when they release. They require updates to work, and single player games have to be constantly connected to the internet. Everything is subscription based and you don't even own your game anymore when you buy the disc, its just a license to download it.
But why am I talking about this? Because its a good thing. Its setting a precedent for people to boycott them and not pay them any money or play AAA games. If people don't buy the product, it'll force the companies to try harder and give us what we want. After that they'll start making better, more inspired and stylistic games that run better, and are simply more fun. The generations from the N64 to the Wii were some of the best games of all time, and it makes them think people will just buy any games they put out, which is a total lie. I’m not saying you can't like these games, but you should try to help move the industry forwards to make them even better. Do your part and show them you care about what you play, also play Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 for the PS2 its pretty good.
TLDR: Gaming's pretty bad now, but if you show the creators of what you like that you, the consumer, can simply just stop supporting them, it'll force them to make better and more creative things.
